Brampton City Council has recently approved significant updates to the city’s residential rental framework that will take effect January 1. Under the new measures, the Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) program will expand across the entire city, meaning more rental properties will be subject to municipal licensing requirements than in past years. In tandem with this expansion, council also endorsed a substantial increase in penalties for non-compliance, with fines for repeat offences rising by roughly 400 per cent compared with previous levels.
The expanded program and steeper fine structure are designed to improve oversight of rental housing conditions and ensure that properties meet established standards. While applications and renewals for licences remain free, property owners are now expected to maintain current documentation and comply with licensing rules or face heightened consequences.
