Brampton took a significant step forward today, commemorating the groundbreaking of the city’s second hospital at the Peel Memorial site. This pivotal development will greatly enhance health care services for the city’s expanding population, reinforcing Brampton’s medical infrastructure. The event also marks the centennial celebration of Peel Memorial, recognizing a hundred years of dedicated service to the community.
In a historic commitment, the Ontario government has pledged an extraordinary $2.3 billion to bring this essential project to life. This major investment will ensure that Brampton’s health care system is equipped to meet both current and future demands. The realization of this hospital is driven by the leadership of the William Osler Health System and its Foundation, showcasing a collaborative effort to expand medical care in the region.
Further solidifying this commitment, Brampton’s 2025 Budget emphasizes strengthening the city’s health services. The City has allocated $10 million towards the TMU School of Medicine to foster medical education and advancements. Additionally, $81.1 million in reserves and $4.9 million in levies have been set aside to support the transformation of Peel Memorial, demonstrating Brampton’s dedication to accessible, high-quality health care.
Community involvement remains a driving force in advancing health services in Brampton. Last year, Mayor Brown’s Hockey Night in Brampton achieved a historic fundraising milestone, generating $14 million for the William Osler Health System Foundation in support of the new hospital. As one of Canada’s largest charitable hockey events, it underscores the generosity and dedication of the Brampton community in building a stronger local health care network. The next event is scheduled for August 20, 2025.
The City of Brampton continues to work closely with all levels of government, industry stakeholders, and the local community to expand and enhance its health care system. Today’s groundbreaking represents the beginning of a transformative journey, paving the way for a more robust and forward-thinking future for health care in Brampton.
